Product Overview

Application Scenarios

Spring lock washers (DIN 127 Type B) are split helical washers made from hardened spring steel. When the bolt or nut is tightened, the split ring is flattened; its spring tension keeps a constant axial load on the joint, while the two sharp square-cut ends bite into the bearing faces of the nut and the workpiece to resist loosening from vibration and thermal cycling. They are one of the most common and economical anti-loosening devices, used across machinery, automotive, railway, electrical and general engineering assemblies. Stainless versions suit damp, outdoor and corrosive environments.

Installation Notes

Fit the spring washer directly under the nut or bolt head — with a flat washer beneath it on soft materials — and tighten until the split ring is compressed flat, which is what develops the locking bite and spring load. Do not reuse a spring washer that has lost its free height, and match its size to the bolt so the square ends bear on solid metal. For higher-security or safety-critical joints, spring washers are often combined with, or replaced by, nylon-insert lock nuts, serrated flange nuts or thread-locking adhesive.

Material & Certification

Coiled from hardened spring steel to DIN 127 Type B, tempered to roughly 42–52 HRC so the ring holds its spring tension and biting edges, with every batch traceable to raw material certificates. Each production lot passes 100% dimensional inspection (inner diameter, section, free height) before packaging; EN 10204 3.1 material certificates are available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a spring lock washer stop bolts loosening?
When tightened flat, the split helical ring pushes back with spring force to keep tension in the joint, and its two square-cut ends dig into the nut and workpiece faces to resist turning. Together these resist the vibration and thermal movement that would otherwise let a plain nut back off. For the strongest security, add a flat washer on soft materials, or use a prevailing-torque lock nut.
Which strength grade should I choose?
Spring lock washers are made from spring steel hardened to about 42–52 HRC so they retain their spring tension and biting edges. Stainless A2 (304) / A4 (316) versions are slightly softer but resist corrosion for damp, outdoor and marine use. They are matched to the bolt size, not to a bolt strength grade — confirm the size and material your drawing calls out before ordering.
Do you provide mill/material certificates?
Yes. EN 10204 3.1 material certificates are available on request, along with dimensional inspection reports, for projects requiring documented traceability.
Can you produce non-standard lengths or custom head types?
Yes. Send us your drawing or sample and we will confirm feasibility, material and dimensions before quoting — custom OEM/ODM production is available alongside our standard DIN 127 B range.
