Product Overview

Application Scenarios

Welding studs (DIN 32501) are threaded studs with a flat weld base and a small central projection (nib) that is fused to a sheet or plate by resistance (or drawn-arc) welding, giving a threaded fixing point on one side of a panel with no hole and nothing protruding on the other. They are widely used in automotive bodywork, appliance and enclosure manufacture, HVAC ducting, switchgear and sheet-metal fabrication, where a captive threaded stud is needed quickly and cleanly. Carbon steel studs are usually copper-flashed for good weld conductivity; stainless versions suit visible and corrosive applications.

Installation Notes

Set the stud in the welding gun or electrode, press the projection against a clean, dry sheet and pass the weld current — the nib melts and fuses the base to the workpiece in a fraction of a second. Match the sheet thickness and material to the stud size and set the weld energy from a test coupon; a good weld shows a full ring of expelled metal around the base. Let the joint cool before loading, do not paint or contaminate the weld area beforehand, and once welded tighten the mating nut to the required torque.

Material & Certification

Cold-formed from weldable low-carbon steel to DIN 32501 and copper-flashed for weld conductivity, with every batch traceable to raw material certificates. Thread and weld-base projection are gauge-checked and each lot passes dimensional inspection before packaging; EN 10204 3.1 material certificates are available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is a welding stud attached?
The stud has a flat base with a small central projection. Placed in a welding gun and pressed against the sheet, a short pulse of weld current melts the projection and fuses the whole base to the workpiece — no drilling, tapping or access to the far side is needed. The result is a permanent, load-bearing threaded stud that is flush on the back of the panel.
Which strength grade should I choose?
Welding studs are usually made from weldable low-carbon (drawing quality) steel for a sound weld and are commonly copper-flashed for conductivity; higher-strength 8.8 and stainless A2 versions are available. The weld itself, not the stud grade alone, sets the joint strength — qualify the weld settings on a test coupon and confirm the material your drawing calls out before ordering.
Do you provide mill/material certificates?
Yes. EN 10204 3.1 material certificates are available on request, along with dimensional inspection reports, for projects requiring documented traceability.
Can you produce non-standard lengths or custom head types?
Yes. Send us your drawing or sample and we will confirm feasibility, material and dimensions before quoting — custom OEM/ODM production is available alongside our standard DIN 32501 range.
