Product Overview

Application Scenarios

Hex slotted / castle nuts (DIN 935) carry a castellated crown with slots that line up with a cross-drilled hole in the bolt; a split (cotter) pin then passes through both to positively lock the nut against rotation. This makes them the standard choice for axle spindles, wheel hubs, kingpins, tie-rods and any safety-critical joint where a nut must never back off. The pin gives a mechanical, tamper-evident lock independent of friction.

Installation Notes

Tighten the nut to the specified torque, then continue only as far as needed to align a pair of slots with the cross-hole in the bolt (never back off to align). Pass a new split pin through the slots and hole, then bend its legs around the nut to secure it. Always use a fresh cotter pin, and choose the castle-nut and bolt combination so a slot lines up close to correct torque.

Material & Certification

Manufactured from carbon steel to property class 6, 8 or 10 per ISO 898-2 and produced to DIN 935, with a machined castellated crown to take a standard split pin. Every batch is traceable to raw material certificates; each run passes 100% dimensional and thread-gauge inspection; EN 10204 3.1 certificates available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fit the split pin on a castle nut?
Torque the nut to spec, then advance it just enough for a slot pair to line up with the bolt’s cross-hole — tighten to align, don’t loosen. Push a new split pin through, spread its legs around the nut, and trim if needed. Always fit a fresh pin; a reused pin can fatigue and fail.
When should I use a castle nut instead of a lock nut?
Use a castle nut where a positive, inspectable mechanical lock is required — steering, suspension, axles and other safety-critical joints — because the split pin cannot loosen under vibration and can be seen at a glance. Friction lock nuts are fine for general vibration, but on regulated running gear a castle nut with a cotter pin is usually specified.
Do you provide mill/material certificates?
Yes. EN 10204 3.1 material certificates are available on request, along with dimensional inspection reports, for projects requiring documented traceability.
Can you produce non-standard lengths or custom head types?
Yes. Send us your drawing or sample and we will confirm feasibility, material and dimensions before quoting — custom OEM/ODM production is available alongside our standard DIN 933 / ISO 4017 range.
