Product Overview

Application Scenarios

All-metal hex lock nuts (DIN 980V, also called stover or one-piece prevailing-torque nuts) have a slightly pinched top crown whose distorted threads grip the bolt and resist loosening under vibration — with no nylon insert, so they work at high temperature. Widely used in engines, exhaust systems, machinery and any hot or heavy-duty joint where a nylon-insert nut would fail. The metal locking action gives reliable, reusable prevailing torque.

Installation Notes

Thread the nut on with the pinched (locking) crown facing away from the joint. It will feel stiff as the distorted top threads engage — that prevailing torque is normal and is what stops the nut backing off. Run it down to the mating surface and tighten to the specified torque. Because locking is all-metal, these nuts suit high temperatures and heavy vibration where nylon-insert nuts are not rated.

Material & Certification

Manufactured from austenitic stainless steel — A2-70 (AISI 304) or A4-80 (AISI 316) — to ISO 3506-2 and produced to DIN 980V / ISO 7042, with a distorted all-metal locking crown. The corrosion-resistant metal locking suits outdoor, marine and high-temperature joints. Every batch is traceable to raw material certificates; each run passes 100% dimensional and prevailing-torque inspection; EN 10204 3.1 certificates available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is an all-metal lock nut different from a nylon-insert one?
An all-metal lock nut (DIN 980V) locks by a distorted metal crown, so it works at high temperature and can be reused more times. A nylon-insert nut (DIN 985) locks with a plastic collar — smoother to run down and slightly sealing, but limited to about 120°C. Choose all-metal for heat and heavy vibration, nylon for general vibration and moderate temperatures.
Can all-metal lock nuts be reused?
Yes — the metal locking crown holds its prevailing torque better than a nylon insert across repeated use, so all-metal lock nuts can be re-used several times. For safety-critical joints, still verify the prevailing torque meets the standard, and replace any nut that spins on freely.
Do you provide mill/material certificates?
Yes. EN 10204 3.1 material certificates are available on request, along with dimensional inspection reports, for projects requiring documented traceability.
Can you produce non-standard lengths or custom head types?
Yes. Send us your drawing or sample and we will confirm feasibility, material and dimensions before quoting — custom OEM/ODM production is available alongside our standard DIN 933 / ISO 4017 range.
