Product Overview

Application Scenarios

Socket head cap screws (DIN 912) have a cylindrical head driven by an internal hex (Allen) key, delivering high clamp load from a compact, recessed head where an open wrench can’t reach or a flush, clean finish is required. High-strength grade 12.9 alloy versions are standard in machine tools, dies and moulds, jigs, fixtures and hydraulic equipment; stainless versions suit food, medical, marine and outdoor assemblies. The small head and deep socket allow neat counterbored, flush-mounted joints.

Installation Notes

Drive with the correct-size metric hex key or bit fully seated in the socket to avoid rounding it out; grade 12.9 screws develop very high clamp loads, so tighten with a torque wrench to the specified value. For counterbored joints, confirm the counterbore diameter and depth suit the head (dk × k) so it seats flush. A thread-locker or spring/serrated washer helps on vibration-prone joints; stainless screws benefit from anti-seize to prevent thread galling.

Material & Certification

Manufactured from alloy steel (SCM435 / 10.9-grade steel), heat-treated to property class 12.9, 10.9 or 8.8 per ISO 898-1 and produced to DIN 912 / ISO 4762, with every batch traceable to raw material certificates. Each run passes 100% dimensional and hardness inspection with sample testing before packaging; EN 10204 3.1 material certificates are available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What hex key size does a socket cap screw need?
Each thread size uses a defined across-flats hex socket (s): M6 takes a 5 mm key, M8 a 6 mm, M10 an 8 mm, M12 a 10 mm and M16 a 14 mm. Always use the exact metric hex key fully inserted — an undersized, imperial or worn key will round out the socket and ruin the screw.
Which strength grade should I choose?
Grade 12.9 is the standard high-strength socket cap screw for tooling, dies, moulds and machinery. Grade 10.9 and 8.8 cover general and lighter-duty machine assembly. Stainless A2-70 / A4-80 trades some strength for corrosion resistance — confirm the grade your drawing calls out before ordering.
Do you provide mill/material certificates?
Yes. EN 10204 3.1 material certificates are available on request, along with dimensional inspection reports, for projects requiring documented traceability.
Can you produce non-standard lengths or custom head types?
Yes. Send us your drawing or sample and we will confirm feasibility, material and dimensions before quoting — custom OEM/ODM production is available alongside our standard DIN 912 / ISO 4762 range.
