Product Overview

Application Scenarios

Cross-recess pan head machine screws (DIN 7985 / ISO 7045) have a low, rounded pan head driven by a Phillips cross recess, on a fully threaded machine-screw shank. They are among the most widely used general-purpose screws — driven into tapped holes, nuts or captive threads in electrical switchgear and control panels, appliances, electronics, sheet-metal enclosures, signage and light assemblies. The broad pan head gives a large bearing surface; stainless versions suit visible, damp, outdoor and food-contact applications.

Installation Notes

Drive with a correctly sized Phillips bit — the recess number rises with screw size (PH1 for M3, PH2 for M4–M5, PH3 for M6, PH4 for M8), and the wrong bit cams out and chews up the cross recess. These are machine screws: run them into a tapped hole, nut or captive thread rather than plain material, and keep thread engagement at least equal to the thread diameter. They are normally grade 4.8 or 8.8, so do not treat them as high-strength screws; a spring or serrated washer, or a thread-locker, resists loosening under vibration.

Material & Certification

Manufactured from austenitic stainless steel — A2 (AISI 304) or A4 (AISI 316) — to ISO 3506-1 and produced to DIN 7985 / ISO 7045, with every batch traceable to raw material certificates. Each production run passes 100% dimensional and cross-recess gauge inspection before packaging; EN 10204 3.1 material certificates are available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Phillips bit size do these screws need?
Match the bit to the recess number, which grows with screw size: M3 takes a PH1 (Phillips No.1) bit, M4 and M5 a PH2, M6 a PH3 and M8 a PH4. An undersized or worn bit cams out and rounds off the cross recess, so always seat the correct-size bit fully before applying torque.
Which strength grade should I choose?
Cross-recess pan head machine screws are normally supplied in grade 4.8 for general light-duty use, or 8.8 where a little more strength is needed — they are not high-strength structural screws. Stainless A2 (304) / A4 (316) trades some strength for corrosion resistance and is preferred for damp, outdoor or food-contact use — confirm the grade your drawing calls out before ordering.
Do you provide mill/material certificates?
Yes. EN 10204 3.1 material certificates are available on request, along with dimensional inspection reports, for projects requiring documented traceability.
Can you produce non-standard lengths or custom head types?
Yes. Send us your drawing or sample and we will confirm feasibility, material and dimensions before quoting — custom OEM/ODM production is available alongside our standard DIN 7985 / ISO 7045 range.
