Product Overview

Application Scenarios

Wing screws (DIN 316), also called butterfly or thumb-wing screws, are the male counterpart to the wing nut — two upright wings on a threaded shank that let them be driven in and out by hand with no tool. They are used wherever a screw must be set or removed often and quickly: machine guards and covers, adjustable stops and clamps, electrical and electronic enclosures, jigs and fixtures, furniture and display fittings, and sports and camping gear. The American-form wings give a firm finger grip; stainless A2 / A4 versions suit damp, outdoor and food-contact use, and their light clamp force suits frequently-serviced rather than structural joints.

Installation Notes

Start the thread square by hand and run the screw down by turning the wings, then nip it up with firm finger-and-thumb pressure — no driver is needed, and heavy tooling can bend the wings. Use a flat washer under the wings to spread the load and protect the surface, and a spring washer where mild vibration is present. Wing screws give a modest clamp force by design, so use them for covers, guards and adjustable joints rather than high-load connections, and choose stainless or plated finishes for wet or outdoor service.

Material & Certification

Cold-forged from austenitic stainless steel — A2 (AISI 304) or A4 (AISI 316) — to DIN 316, with wing span and thread gauge-checked and every batch traceable to raw material certificates. Each lot passes dimensional inspection before packaging; EN 10204 3.1 material certificates are available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a wing screw and a wing nut?
A wing screw (DIN 316) is a male fastener — two wings on a threaded shank that screws into a tapped hole. A wing nut (DIN 315) is female — it screws onto an existing stud or bolt. Both are turned by hand with no tool for quick, repeated adjustment; you choose the wing screw when you need the whole fastener to thread into the part rather than run onto a stud.
Which strength grade should I choose?
Wing screws are supplied in zinc-plated carbon steel and in A2 / A4 stainless, in the American (cold-forged) form for a firm grip. They are a light-duty, hand-tightened fastener, so material and finish — rather than a strength grade — are the main choice: pick stainless for wet, outdoor or food-contact use. Confirm the thread size, length and finish your job needs before ordering.
Do you provide mill/material certificates?
Yes. EN 10204 3.1 material certificates are available on request, along with dimensional inspection reports, for projects requiring documented traceability.
Can you produce non-standard lengths or custom head types?
Yes. Send us your drawing or sample and we will confirm feasibility, material and dimensions before quoting — custom OEM/ODM production is available alongside our standard DIN 316 range.
